Frequently Asked Questions
Here you’ll find answers to some of the questions we’re asked most frequently regarding school policies and procedures. We encourage you to review the answers below, and if you still have questions, check out the student handbook, which you’ll find in the parents quick link category on the Home page. You can also give us a call at any time during our normal office hours, and we’ll be happy to respond to any inquiries you have.

How often can I expect to see a progress report for my child?
We send progress reports home with the students in the middle of each quarter. If you do not receive a progress report, please ask your child and/or talk to your child’s teacher. Every nine weeks, we distribute report cards. You may pick up your child’s report card at the school during parent-teacher conferences. If you do not pick up a report card at the school, we will send it home with your child the following day.
What if my child becomes ill during the school day?
If a student becomes ill, he or she will receive a pass from the teacher to leave class and report to the office. Our office staff members will determine whether it is necessary to send the student home or whether the student can stay at school after receiving treatment. If the student needs to go home, we will contact the parent or emergency contact listed in the student’s information file.
What if my child needs to leave campus early?
In the event that a student must leave school early, a parent or guardian must come to the school office and sign the student out. The office will call the classroom to notify the teacher and student. If the entire school needs to be dismissed early for a special function or emergency, we will notify both students and parents/guardians.
Can I visit my child’s classroom?
We welcome parents to visit Kiser Elementary on any day that school is in session. If possible, we encourage you to notify the classroom teacher 24 hours in advance of your visit. Please remember that any visitor to the school must sign in at the school office and wear a volunteer badge while on campus.
Do you have a dress code at Paloma ESD?
We require our students to wear the designated school uniform clothing:
Shirts: Maroon and gold Paloma logo shirts (purchased in the school office).
Bottoms: Navy blue slacks, pants, blue jeans, or shorts (with the inclusion of skirts, jumpers, or capris for girls).
New students will have one week to purchase school uniforms. The school may donate the use of at least one uniform per student, depending on need.
Students’ clothing must also cover their undergarments at all times. If they choose to wear secondary or layered clothing, we ask that they wear only the colors of maroon, gold, white, or gray. We also require students to wear shoes at all times.
We encourage students to take pride in their attire as it relates to the school setting. Students should dress in a manner that, in addition to following the dress code, takes into consideration the educational environment, safety, health, and welfare of themselves and others.
In particular, students may not wear:
Altered clothing (i.e., no slits, holes, shredded hems, etc.)
Shorts, skirts, jumpers, and dresses more than six inches above the knee
Excessively baggy and/or sagging pants or shorts
Excessive decorations on pants or shorts
Clothing that infers or is associated with gang affiliation (including bandanas, hairnets, hoods, headbands, belts hanging from belt loops, gang-related personalization, or anything simulating gang colors)
Jewelry that represents a safety hazard to self and/or others (including watch or wallet chains of any style)
Caps or hats (with the exception of special hat days, spirit days, or field trips, when students may wear hats facing straight forward)
Non-prescription sunglasses
Any apparel that the administration determines to be unacceptable (this includes but is not limited to any clothing that offends or disrupts the educational process)
Do you offer transportation services?
We provide a bus service for students of Paloma ESD. Our bus drivers make the students’ safety their top priority, and they require students to follow all bus rules in order to retain the privilege of riding the bus. Please visit the Transportation page to review these rules with your student.
What is the attendance policy at Paloma ESD?
In order to give our students the best possible opportunity for success, we encourage them to avoid missing any school. When a student is absent, it disrupts the educational process and taxes both the student and the teacher. In addition, Arizona state law mandates regular school attendance for all school-age children. At Paloma ESD, we will only excuse students for necessary and important reasons. These reasons include:
Personal or family illness
Death in the family
Other family emergencies
Observances of major religious holidays or of the family’s faith
If your child must miss school, please call the school on or before the day of the absence in order to advise the school of the reason. If you are unable to call on the day of the absence, please notify the school on the morning the student returns (in time for the student to obtain an admission slip prior to the first class). If a parent does not verify an absence, it will remain unexcused. In the event that a parent does not have access to a phone, we will accept a note for verification purposes.
